Computer Recommendations

I am looking to adding a new faster 2nd workstation for video editing.

I currently have a Sony Vaio 1.6 GHZ system that has been rock solid for me.

I was looking at posssibly getting another Vaio the RZ series with a 3.4 GHZ processor. I could get a refurbished one off of Ebay for about $799-1,200.

Would you recommend Sony's systems or getting custom one build by let's say PC Nirvana instead.

The only thing that I don't like about having the Vaio is all of the extra stuff that they put on their systems, as well as the fact that I can't tell what motherboard they put in their systems so upgrading is a problem.

The positive with having a video system only system build by let's say PC Nirvana in that all of the extra programs are not there, however the systems themselves are more expensive .

Thanks again for your input,
Dezine

To be honest it would be a lot cheaper if you just built one yourself. It's really not all that hard to do and once you learn how to do it...it will save you a lot of money in the future. There are tons of resources out there that can give you step by step instructions on how to install a motherboard, processor, ram, pretty much anything.
Then once you build your system, a year or 2 down the road when it starts to get outdated, most likely you can just put in a new motherboard, processor and possibly ram and you will have the latest computer.

If you want a computer that is assembled with the "best of breed" components, and which has the software configured without all the corporate advertising and silly, useless "throw away" applications, I highly recommend Polywell computer. Their support is done through a third-party outfit and is adequate, but nothing to write home about. However, their hardware is top-notch.

They have video editing systems, but they are configured with Pinnacle.

I don't know why Sony doesn't pursue hardware bundling deals. They used to do them with Boxx Computers, but that deal has long since lapsed.
