Is AP4(+SF7/Vegas?) equal in quality to cubase from performance/features standpoint?
I'm asking because the computer available is:Winxp,850P3,250ram,Asus motherboard,which is apparently not fast enough to run cubase.

Thanks for any input.

In short, yes.

If anything, upgrade your RAM; Windows XP requires 128 MB but likes at least 256 MB to run comfortably. You should be OK with your current config, but be aware of performance ceiling issues, especially if you're working with 24-bit audio.

Thanks for your prompt reply mD. So with more ram I can probably expect that basically:
cubase = acid4 + SF7
VV(which I already have) would of course be required for video scoring.

Actually, Cubase = ACID 4+Vegas. Cubase can record multiple tracks simultaniously just like Vegas but ACID can only record one track at a a time. (not a big deal if you work alone like I do). I don’t think Cubase has anything like SoundForge. That would be more like WaveLab.

You can do your video scoring right in ACID. So you would use Vegas to create the video and ACID to score it. Alternately you could simply compose in ACID and drop the wav file in Vegas. It depends if you’re just doing background music or really scoring to the mood of the scene.
