Subject:What are - sfap0 - sfk - files when I save as mp3

I haven't fooled around much with mp3...

I was converting some sound effects from wav to mp3 and got 3 files for each wave...

1 - myfile.mp3
2 - myfile.sfk
3 - myfile.sfap0

what are the sfk and sfap0 files? I just want to use the mp3's in a video... can I delete the sfk and sfap0 files?

thanks - Will

The .sfk file contains the picture of the waveform that you see on the timeline.

The .sfap0 file is (i believe) a Sound Forge Audio Proxy file. Sound Forge prior to version 7 can't open/edit MP3 files directly. It creates an uncompressed version and saves it with the .sfap0 extension. You'll may also end up with a myfile.sfap0.sfk if you look for it.

You may delete these extra files after you close out the editing session, but they will be created again if you open up the project for more editing.

Chineworks,

thanks for the info.

do you know if you can tell the name of the original file from the .sfap0 or the .sfk file?

Somehow, I lost a sound effect and only have the .sfk and .sfap0 left...

I have spent 2 hours listening to sound effects trying to find what I originally used... but no luck.

thanks for any help - Will

The names of the files should all be identical except for the extension. So, a file named "sound_effect_32.sfap0" would have come from a file named "sound_effect_32.mp3", for example.

If you have the .sfap0 file you should be able to open this up in Sound Forge since it's basically an ordinary .wav file. You could then re-save it to whatever type and name you wish.
