I saw that SF7 had XP or w2000 as requirements for running. Is this true? You can't run it on wME or w98? |

Yes, this is the trend. It will benefit us all in the long run. There are many things that had to be worked around with audio performance on the Win98 and Win ME OS's, because they partially run on top of the 16 bit Dos core. Sound Forge 7.0 was the first of the Sony apps to abandon the Win98 support, followed by Vegas 5.0. I would expect the next version of Acid to follow in that direction. Most other Windows based audio programs are doing the same. If you haven't upgraded your PC to WinXP, I highly recommend it. I loved Windows 98, but I once I upgraded to XP, I really love the solid performance I've had since then. I found using windows 98, that after many hours of working with an app, eventually something would freeze up or crash, and I'ld have to reboot. Another thing I would find, is if I left my PC running all night, just in an idle state, the next day things where buggy or locked up. This became a way of life for me, of what I just considered typical computer behavior. Since, I upgraded to XP, I haven't seen these strange things since, on the same system that had 98 installed on it. I did a dual boot system, because my midi sequencer runs on Win98, and haven't found this to be a problem. If you're not ready for the investment, there's always Sound Forge 6.0 and Vegas 4.0, which both also run on XP and win98. |
