Hello all, Is there a way to have Sound Forge generate/store sfk files in one place? The temporary file folder option doesn't help as .sfk isn't assumed to be temporary. I see there is an option to "hide" them, but I'm trying to keep them from being peppered all over the drive. I know they are small, but it's an annoyance. Moving files around just tends to generate more of them if you don't move them as well. Many Thanks! |

They need to be in the same directory as the audio file they are associated with. They're simply the drawn waveform. In preferences check the delete temporary files on close, it will just take a bit longer to open audio files as Forge will have to re-generate the .sfk file. You can start fresh using Search > Files and Folders > type *.sfk and delete them all. MJ |

Would have been nicer to have these stored in the Temporary folder you setup in preferences. |

All Sony/Sonic Foundry apps create .sfk files. Iin order to share them between apps (so they don't have to be rebuilt all the time), they have to live in a reasonably predictable location, in this case, next to their parent media file. That is, ACID doesn't know where Sound Forge's temp folder is, but it obviously can look right next to the file for a matching .sfk to use. As of Sound Forge 7.0, you can check the 'Delete temporary files on close' pref (Options->Preferences->File) and any *new* .sfk files that Sound Forge has to generate will live in the temp directory and will automatically die when they are no longer in use or when Sound Forge is shut down. Pre-existing .sfk files (like the ones you are seeing) will not be affected by this pref. If you are into hidden files, there's a pref for that, too. J. |

But isn't there a shared plugin folder that Foundry apps know how to get to? The same isn't impossible for scratch disks or temp folders that the family of apps would share and makes it an "obvious" place to look as well. The requirement to have the .skf file in the same folder with the .wav is legacy/obsolete. The idea of storing them in one place allows for you to have the functionality of not having to re-create them but makes it easier to clean up when you need to (i.e. you don't have to search your system or folders for them). I prefer to not hide clutter under a rug with the hide option. [edit: Steinberg, Adobe, and many other modern apps use a temp folder for their wav images as well] |
