I had an 'opportunity' to reformat my C: drive and start from scratch with win2k and all the applications (I'm wise enough now to have two other partitions where MY work didn't 'vanish' (Yayy!!!)

Everything's reloaded quite nicely, I was surprised how smoothly and relatively quickly. BUT, the one problem's been with my SF 5.0 that I download in April 2001 I have the .exe. file and a .reg file named

SF153486.REG that holds the text.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sonic Foundry\Sound Forge\5.0\License]
"keyRegFile"="3BF1R-4KQKQ-CCCNC-CCNNN"

I replaced the last part with C for Character and N for number. I'm guessing SF folks don't want me broadcasting license numbers.

Well, in this case it probably doesn't matter, because I get an error "invalid number" when I try to enter it for in the opening dialog. I'm working in Demo mode, but that isn't going to cut it.

I've sent essentially this message to email support but haven't gotten a response.

I'm looking for some good ideas. What I had was working perfectly well for now. I'm not ready to upgrade, yet.

Help!

I think what you are seeing is the activation code, not the serial number. You need to type in the serial number that was emailed to you with your download information. It's in this format:

XX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX

The activation code will be different every time the software is reinstalled.
