Sound Forge really doesn't have a maximum time. It's based on the size of the file that can be written. A standard .WAV file is limited to 2GB, and if you use 44.1KHz 16 bit stereo this works out to about 200 minutes' worth. On the other hand, if you record 22KHz 16 bit mono you can record about 800 minutes. Later versions of Sound Forge record to a temp file that doesn't have the 2GB limitation so you can record a file nearly as large as the free space on the hard drive (or 4GB if you are using Windows 98). However, once it's recorded, if it's over 2GB you won't be able to save it as a .wav file! You can split it up into smaller parts, compress it to MP3 or PCA, or save it uncompressed as a W64 file. The problem with the last choice is, while it's the most convenient format, it's proprietary to SONY media software and can't be used in any other software. |
