Subject:mp3 longer than wav?!

In some instances when Sound Forge 7.0a renders out an mp3 from a wav, the mp3 is slightly longer than the original wav.

3.12:00 wav renders as 3.12:52 mp3

The wav is 44.1 16b stereo
mp3 settings are 256, quality max, no vbr, stereo

If I trim both ends of the mp3 so the time is again 3.12:00 and save out the mp3 it opens back up longer 3.12:52

The extra 0.00:52 is split between the head and tail and is just air, no signal.

Needless to say, this makes it difficult to render a loop as an mp3.

The original wav was rendered out of Acid 4. Opened in SF, couple of level fixes, then reopened in SF to render as mp3.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Don't render loops as MP3 files.
That's the most important thought! :)

MP3 files have extra dead space at the beginning and end. It's part of the MP3 spec. You can't avoid it using SONY's media software, so don't bother trying. Save your loops as WAV files.
