Hey all I am trying to compress my audio file for streaming over the internet. Currently I lowered the bit depth to 8, switched it to mono and it is saved as an mp3 at lowest quality. The file is only 5 minutes long and is 1.89mb way to big to send via emal. Can anyone help is there something else i should be doing to compress this file. Thanks |

When you say "lowest quality", are you referring to the slider that is marked "Quality: and has three settings, "Fastest encode, Medium, Highest quality"? If so, this has nothing to do with the finished file size. This slider merely tells Sound Forge how well to encode the file. What you need to change is the Bit rate to get a smaller file. Leave the file at 16 bits to get better quality. Change the Bit rate to a lower value. Depending on what the recording is, you may be able to get away with as low as 24 or 32Kbps. Set the quality slider to "Highest quality" to get the best possible sound out of such a low bitrate. You should be able to get a 5 minute file under 1Mb with these settings and still have it pretty much usable. |
