I just purchased SoundForge Audio Studio 7. I want to use it with my midi keyboard (and I was led to believe this was possible). In the online help provided with the product it says I should have a menu item under the view menu called keyboard. I have no such item. There are also references to midi settings in other places that I don't have in my product. Can anyone tell me what's up with that? Thanks

Sound Forge does not record or play MIDI. The only Sony app. that does is Acid.

Sound Forge's MIDI support is limited to MIDI sync. I'm not even sure SF Studio even supports that, it may only be supported by the Pro version.

You can connect the line output of your keyboard into the line input of your computer's sound card and record the audio from the keyboard just as if you were recording on a tape deck. You won't need to access the keyboard function in Sound Forge (which i believe also is only in the Pro version).

thanks for the response - that's pretty much what I figured....

but it still is irritating that the help file directs you to do something impossible. I guess the help is general and covers multiple products.

any recommendations for a newbie on good software to learn midi sequencing?

I believe the MIDI keyboard in Sound Forge is to control internal or external samplers and synths from Sound Forge, which can be very powerful if you know how to use it. (You can basically transfer and edit samples between Sound Forge and the sampler/synth.)
