On purchasing the AP5 upgrade tonight I was amused that I had to accept terms and conditions in two languages (English and French) one of which I don't read well enough to know what I had to agree to so Sony could take my money.

While I'm pleased that the legal department can now order dinner in two languages, I think it would be more reasonable to have agreements in the same language that the rest of the purchase order and credit card processing is written in.

In addition, I very much care what is installed on my machine and would have liked to known that the 'Sony Media Manager' (whatever that is) was going to be installed and perhaps to have been told what it does.

The Media Manager is part of ACID and allows you to catalog all your loops in a database that is searchable by tags that you can attach to loops. I don’t see why Sony should warn you it is installing it any more that it should warn you that its going to install the Piano Roll Editor or MP3 Encoder. It’s just a component of ACID.
