I have a denon mixer that allows me to mark tracks when I record to minidisk or CD recorder with spdif. Is there a way to get Soundforge to place a marker when the button on my mixer is pressed. I tried it the other day without success. I have also searched the fourm but didn't find anything of much help. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for all the wonderful responses. I am glad there is a place like this I can turn too and find out all the answers to my problems.

Cheers.

Keep in mind that a lack of answers usually IS the answer in these cases. You won't usually get a lot of people posting, "Sorry, i don't know."

No.

Background:

The SPDIF spec does define the ability to communicate id tags. In order for Sound Forge to use this, the hardware device (sound card) would have to communicate this information to the host.

It is possible for an audio driver to be written to communicate such information. However, it would be non-standard and any software that would want to take advantage this would have write to the special API of the driver.

So, basically, there is not standard mechanism to solve this problem on the PC under Windows. (We actually tried to define such a standard, but nothing ever materialized.)

FWIW: There use to be a card that did this very nicely, but the company went out of business in 98.

I am sure there are proprietary systems that can do this under Windows today. I am not aware of any that Sound Forge could be adapted to.
