I inherited this sofware from my brother recently and i did a live recording with it. Durring the last 5 minutes my computer shut down. It was a long recording and I found a 1.9 GB MP3 file. When I bring it into soudn forge it goes through building the file but when it come up it's a long file with no sound. Does anyone know how I can recover from this? Thanks! |

It most likely won't be saved in an MP3 file. You would only get this by using Save As, which you obviously didn't get a chance to do. Look in the Sound Forge program directory (probably C:\program files\Sony\Sound Forge 7.0\ (might be SonicFoundry\Sound Forge 6.0 if you have an older version). You may see some files name frg000.tmp or something like that. If the date/time on the file looks correct then it most likely is your recording. It's possible that you have the temporary files directory set to somewhere else, so check the Options / Preferences in Sound Forge to see if it has been changed; if so, look in that directory instead. This .tmp file should be openable in RAW mode using whatever sample rate/bit depth/number of channels you used when recording. Usually Sound Forge detects these files automatically on starting up and prompts you to recover them. If you didn't see this automatic recovery notice then your recording might not be available anymore. |

The file is a frg001.tmp file and it's the right date and time and size, so I know it's the file. When I turned back on the computer the message came up like you said to recover and I hit ok then it said it had some problem. (By the way I do have the older 6.0) Since I didn't know that location at the time I did a file search and found the file and then drag and placed it in sounge forge. It went through the steps of building the file and then when it opens there is no sound wave. It appears as if it's a huge file of nothing! I'm not sure what the RAW mode is? Thanks for you help! |
