re: how to repair badly distorted audio recording

I have an MP3 voice-only audio file that I recorded in SoundForge version 6.0e (build 237), just like I always have.

However, this time when it reopened and I go to play it, it is so severely distorted, that I can barely make out words.

Words seem to be speeded up way too much and tripping over each other.

Here's what I know about the recording from Properties...
(since I don't know the program particularly well, I'm not sure what's relevant, but here's what I found)

File Size: 47.46MB
File Type: MP3 Audio
Audio Format: MPEG Layer-3
Audio Attributes: 44,100 Hz, 16 Bit, Mono
Audio Length: 01:41:13.835 (267,856,128 samples)
[this seems a little strange and disturbing because I thought my recording was a little over 3 hours]

Regions/Markers: No
Command Markers: No
Playlist: No
ACID chunk: No
Unity note: C5
Loop(s): One Shot
SMPTE: (No offset specified)

Sample Rate: 44,100Mhz
Bit-depth: 16 bit
Channels: Mono
Source: 44,100 Hz, 16 Bit, Mono
Process/DSP: 44,100 Hz, 64 Bit (IEEE Float), Mono
Playback: 44,100 Hz, 16 Bit, Mono

Cursor Position: 01:39:39.974 (263,716,864 samples)
Sample value: -247
Sound data size: 521.16MB (535,712,256 bytes)
Undo buffers: 0 out of unlimited occupying 0.00MB
Redo buffers: 2 out of unlimited occupying 0.00MB

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

PS: I think this calamity happend because I clicked the Save button on the toolbar, instead of "Save As" (where I ususually pick a configuration)
