Anyone ever get this. I know this is not my mixer as its crystal clear through the monitors as well as the headphones. When I use Sound Forge and prepare to record the Monitor levels are already midway in the green before I begin to record. I know this is a Windows settings somewhere. I am using my M-audio audiophile to record and have disabled the onboard card on my laptop.

If anyone wants to get a look at it . here is a link I posted on a different forum

In the image you posted, Microsoft Sound Mapper is the selected device. Change this to select your Maudio card.

I selected the m-audio audiophile and this issue still remains. The levels begin already in the green. Even after I disabled the onboard microsoft sound card.

Noise floor. Looks to be around -42 dB, which is about typical. This is going to be generally not audible. This is really a factor of the A/D converters and anything else that may be in the signal path connected to your audio card.

Completely remove any input from your MAudio device - that is disconnect the cables. Does the level drop?

Does the audiophile let you choose between balalanced and unbalanced inputs?

What is the source of input?

Unbalanced analog inputs only and SPDIF. My Audiophile's (PCI version) un-fed noise floor hovers around -73 dB. This seems to be typical judging from what others have posted.

I will experiment with the cables. I am using a RANE dj mixer to finally record my record collection to mp3. I am using standard 1/4 inch cables. might be in the cables?

Weakest link in the chain rules apply.

The only way you can determine what the cause may be is by trying each part of the signal path. There is no magic button here.
