Subject:save as mp3 changes file length

Apologies if this is some dumb newbie thing, but it's driving me batty:
I open a wav file in SF 7 which is exactly 2.000 sec and save it as mp3. All of a sudden now the length is 2.064 sec. Some silence has been added to the beginning and the end. So I delete the silence at the beginning and end. The properties now say 2.000 sec. I save the file, and guess what, the length is 2.064 sec again. Can anybody tell me what's going on?

Adding a tiny silence at the beginning and end is part of the MP3 specification. All software is supposed to do this when saving to MP3.

If you need to have the exact length preserved then use some other format besides MP3.
