Hi, I am at a point where I have to decide to purchase a audio recording software, basically where I need a feature of recording directly from the live speech ( English )given into the computer directly. My fist question is: Is it possible thru Sound Forge that I can directly record a live speech given by people with Indian diction, pronunciation of English words. The live speech given is not from a American and I know some sftwares accept American voice very easily. In this case the person who gives the speech is Indian and I am would like to know if we have a feature in Sound Forge. Second Question If this is possible, technically what is that I need to have on my computer (hardware/software) to get this really happen. Third Question How is the quality of recording provided this is possible Fourth Question Once recorded is it possible to convert the file into a text file . Awaiting your response Ram |

1) Sound Forge doesn't care if you're speaking English, Indian, French, Swahili, Cat, Dog, Martian, or playing the Sousaphone. It merely makes a recording of whatever sound there is and records all sounds equally well. 2) You'll need some sort of recording software. Sound Forge is very good for this. You'll also need some sort of input such as a microphone. If you want better quality, get a good mic and an external input device that connects to USB or firewire. 3) It can be very good indeed, rivaling the best commercial recording studio quality. 4) This has absolutely nothing to do with Sound Forge in the slightest. I think you must be looking for speech-to-text or voice-recognition software. Back a few years ago i remember something called "Dragon Naturally Speaking" being considered on of the best. I believe IBM has some good software for this too. Most of them can be trained to understand whatever accent or dialect the speaker is using, however the training period can be rather long and tedious. You may spend most of your time after the first few recordings teaching the software what many of the spoken words are. It will get better after the training though. |

Hello, For live speech recording, does anyone if its possible in Sound Forge, to set up a beep or click when you hit the record button, so the VO artist knows when to start? Thanks :) |

I would say that it's more your responsibility to make sure you are recording before the VO artist starts. |

I agree, but how do you tell them you've started recording if they're in a sound proof booth with a little window? I really need an audio cue. Any ideas? |

If they are in an isolation booth, then you need some sort of talkback system that the talent hears through their headphones. |

The point is that you shouldn't have to tell them. You start recording before they are ready, and then they can go ahead whenever they are ready without worrying or even caring if you are recording or not. |

Yes. Typically, when we bring talent into the studio, I record everything while they are in the booth, and use the marker feature along with a log so I can find things easier. I also usually record the talkback in case my notes are a bit cryptic. |
