Are the markers and regions that you see in Sound Forge a SF/Sony extension to the Windows wave standard or are they part of the Microsoft standard?

The wav format supports some metadata in addition to the audio, including cue points and playlists. I am nearly positive that SF markers are wav cuepoints. I forget which metadata regions use.
