I am trying to clean up a speech that was recorded on a Sony Minidisk. The person doing the recording had the volume cranked up, and the recording is quite distorted. What is the best way to salvage and/or clean this up?
Help!

Transfer analog. The clips will be a little less noticable than with a direct digital transfer.
You can try SF Sony's Noise Reduction's "clip peak restoration:an Optional program.Try the demo/ to see if it will help.
If it's badly clipped or pre-amp/mixer/mic distortion, there ain't a lot you can do.

Another thing to try is a bandpass filter. Highpass at 80-100 Hz, and lowpass somewhere around 4-8 kHz. But to be honest, there is only so much you can do with a bad recording.
