I edit sermons and often use EQ to reduce popping sounds. Typically I will cut starting at around 160 Hz and have absolutely no EQ increases. I have even dropped the output level by .1 to .5 db. Most of the time this works as expected with the only level changes being the cuts in the frequencies I assigned. However sometimes, while it will cut the frequencies I designated, the result is an overall level increase of the remaining frequencies - including clipping. What's up with that? Thanks for your help, David Vollmer |

Are you talking about an increase in total signal power or larger short term variations? Any EQ, even cuts, can sometimes result in larger short-term peaks. |

Very sharp filters (EQ) can sometimes exhibit a little ringing (a little bump) right before the cutoff. For very loud material, it is sometimes better to use a less drastic filters multiple times than one very sharp filter once. J. |

Sorry to take so long to respond. I've been busy with Good Friday and Easter services. It would seem that setting up multiple filters to eliminate a number of explosive frequencies would be rather time consuming. Can these filters be set up to run within a script or some other SF function. I now have V8 but don't know how to write a script yet. I have several of these pops during a sermon and changing the cardiod lapel mic doesn't seem to help that much, plus the pastor is going to put it pretty much where he feels comfortable with it anyway. |
