Subject:Educational Audio CD questions

Hello,
I am creating an educational audio CD. This involves short musical introductions/conclusions and transitions. I am new at this and have some questions. I have a good studio microphone, an audio buddy microphone preamp, a good sound card, and Sony audio studio.

1. Is there a way to set up the CD so that you can find different sections (tracks), just like a normal music CD?
2. Are there standard suggested effects and processes to make the spoken word vocals sound best on CD? The choices are a bit overwhelming!
3. Is there a way to add the musical transitions so that I can talk over them as they are fading out? I know how to add the music, I don't know how to fade it in a way that allows for vocals over the music.

Thanks for any help you can offer. I have not found the help menu on Audio Studio to be very helpful. Most of what I have learned has been trial and error.

You may want to look into CD Architect, which is included now with the full version of SF8. This will let easilly set up audio tracks, do crossfades between tracks, etc. I am pretty sure there is a demo.

As for processing, the answer is: it depends. For my VO work, I typically apply some EQ (if necessary), noise gate, and light compression.

I typically shy away from WaveHammer. I tend to set the level of each speaker by ear, then RMS normalize the rest of the tracks to match.

Google on voice or vocal EQ and you will find a plethora of information.
