Subject:Convince me to buy SF8!

I currently use Audacity, but have been considering switching to SF8.

I work in a digital library, and a large part of my work includes digitizing and converting recordings, editing (but not special effects) and reducing noise where possible. The recordings are mostly of speech (some music). They range from studio quality to 50 yr old tape reels of recordings made in a windy desert.

These for points cover most of what I want to do:
1) reduce noise (both background noise and artefacts of the recording process)
2) perform batch conversions (without bugs!)
3) batch split files according to external data (eg: split a file into multiple files according to timecodes stored in an XML document)
4) batch edit files according to external data

Notes:
Scripting isn't a hurdle for me.
I am/was a SF4 user.
Biased answers in favour of SF products are fine and invited, but I don't need info about the differences outside the 4 points above

So, how will SF8 make this simpler for me than Audacity's current functionality?

thanks :-)

I'm surprised noone has replied to this - I'd have thought that at least the developers of SF8 might want to highlight it's virtues!

If this is the level of confidence that Sony and users of SF8 have in the product (and level of support they provide), then I won't bother with it. :-(

LOL! You need to read some more of the posts here regarding SF8. Until the thing is fixed there's no virtures to highlight – just some cool features that may be available sometime in the future. At this point it best to consider it "recalled." Its simply not usuable yet.

Since I am not paid by Sony, I don't have any reason to convince you - make your own mind up!

However, it looks like Noise reduction is an important part of your user requirements list. SF8 has some inbuilt noise reduction tools, but you probably need the "noiseprint" tool that is available as a separate plugin (Sony Noise Reduction). IMO, this is an excellent tool, and one that should be bundled with SF. If Audacity already has the equivalent, then you are probably going backwards by moving to SF8.
