I need help! I forgot to place my telephone on mute today when I recorded a teleclass for a colleague-friend! This was a bartering agreement and really need to fix part of the recording. My husband was away for the afternoon, so I had my office door open and my son-in-law came home and came in my office to ask a fast question about my daughter's birthday party tomorrow night, I though I looked at the mute button on my 5.8Ghz portable phone that I use to record, but evidently I did not see the mute was actually off and I had on a headset mic hooked to the recording wire that goes to the back of my computer...and I spoke out loud to my son-in-law about grocery shopping for my daughters birthday party and 4th of July food a few minutes... and now everyone can hear my conversation about food shopping.... while the speaker I was recording is talking in the background. What's worse is you hear me better than her. I need to edit out my voice, and for the life of me I cannot find any solution on the help menu. If you know a way to fix the Sound Forge 8 recording, I'd sure appreciate the help from your expertise...I just know you can do magic...at least I hope you can! The error is at approximately 19:20 to 22:40 on the hour recording. I really don't know the program, but in my previous work life I was a Neuro-Technolgist and recorded brain activity for 30 years. It was not on a computer but wave forms are similar, so if I had instructions, I bet I could do the editing...but I cannot find out how to do it. Thanks if you have the time to answer. My colleague has to post the audio ton her blog tomorrow...so there is a time constraint here. So let's get this right - you want to remove your voice from the recording, but keep the other voice? Sorry, that is near impossible. Have a look at the wave form, and tell me if you can see the separate voices somewhere in there. Here are your options: - Completely remove the offending section (both voices), and pick start and end points so there is no audible glitch. You would probably want to tell them what you did. - Zoom in on the offending section. Locate (by ear) the spots where JUST YOU are talking, and make these zero amplitude (ie silence). You might actually want to replace these with a sample of background noise, because absolute silence will sound unnatural. - The previous step will still leave places where both of you are talking. If the speaker was male, you MIGHT be able to use a parametric or graphic equalizer plugin to EQ out some of your voice, but I wouldn't hope for too much. People often ask how to use SF to remove vocals from a music track, without realizing what they are really asking for. Our brains are so intelligent that we are able to separate sounds in our head even though we only hear two soundwaves (through our ears). We are able to use a complex set of phase and frequency analysis tools, plus our knowledge of the world around us, to do intelligent analysis that almost defies imagination - and we do it without thinking about it! |

Follow-up question: I forgot to ask, was it a mono or stereo recording? If you are really lucky, there might be some stero separation. How did you record it? Direct (line-in) or using mics? How many, what configuration etc? |
