hi, I m trying to save wav file into the smallest mp3 file. however, when i save under mp3 mono 8 bits, the final mp3 is about 150-200 kbps. the final mp3 file is way too big. i need smaller files. does anyone know how to convert to Mp3 at 8kbps?

It sounds to me like you're either still saving as a .WAV file, or you are trying to reduce the bit depth and sample rate. Neither of these is what you want to do. Make sure you choose "MP3 Audio (*.mp3) as the file type, then choose the template you want underneath that. The default template is probably 128Kbps or 256Kbps. Choose a smaller template. If that isn't small enough yet, click the Custom button. Setting the encoding to Mono lets you choose a bit rate as low as 8Kbps.

thanks Chien, i did choose the mp3 option. under custom i chose mono and 8 Kbps.

usually i have about 5-6 10mins wav files which i copy and paste to combine into a single 60-70 mins wav file which i ll convert into mp3 file. 1 interesting thing to note is that out of about 30-40 tries, i can can 1 conversion at 8kbps. the rest are at 160 kbps

I've noticed other anomalies with the MP3 encoding. If I start with an "untitled" template and then select the custom button all of the stereo options are greyed out and do not return no matter what bit rate you select.
