Subject:SF 7.0 Installs on Windows 2000 but not on XP

My main computer is a newer HP laptop with Windows XP Home. The auto-install does not launch SF and the D: drive registers as empty. This machine just does not "see" that the disc is there.

However, it loads with no problems on a older machine with
Windows 2000.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

More information: the XP will read the disc with the sound effects, and every other program I tried after I tried this. I have never had a problems intalling software before.

When I put in the installation disc, it fires up and tries to read it. This machine has "Service Pack 2". The older Windows 2000 has Service Pack 3. I have no idea if that is a factor, but that was some information that was requested when I attempted to make a support request. Thank you

My guess is that either:

1. The disc is flaky. You can read it in the 2k machine but not the XP machine. Dirty around the inner ring, perhaps?

2. The CD drive on the XP machine is dirty or out of alignment (this may be the case since this is a laptop). Again, check the disc for fingerprints or smudges.

3. Combination of the above.

Download the latest update from the site. Have your serial number handy. You won't need the CD to install from as the updates are the full program.

Thank you, kryten. I downloaded te 7.0b update without a hitch. Nice backdoor solution.

I will most likely be back as I have not a clue as to how to work with this software. I have a training CD to record.

Wish me luck!
