Dual Layer - A Discovery

Sadly I can't find the original thread, however here's a very quick synopsis...

I created a dual layer DVD that was then replicated for sale to the public but this replicated disc had a problem where it would stop approx. where the player would transfer from one layer to the next.

Initially I thought it was a DVDA problem, especially when the DVD replication company claimed there were no problems from what they'd done even though I'd specifically asked for the master to be checked before replication started...

Fast forward a few months and it all becomes clear...

Home burnt dual layer discs have a well know problem, and that's a large number of DVD players (rather than PC DVD drives) fail to recognise the transition point between layers, which causes the player to hang - and this is why DVD replication houses only accept masters supplied on DLT (well, except for the one I used)

I have also discovered that the DVD replication firm I used never checked the master I provided on disc (as I was told to do by said firm) as the system used for checking masters, Eclipse verifier, would definitely have spotted the problem

Time to buy a DLT machine and to take legal action against the DVD replication firm for lying...

Interesting. Thanks for sharing this information with the rest of us.

What is a DLT?

I have "DVD Architect 3". I take it that this is NOT the "full version" DVD Architect which the Manual makes reference to? In other Words I can't make a "Master"?

DLT is basically a cassette tape. You may remember when you would back up your PC or server onto what looked like an old eight track tape? That's pretty much a DLT

Thanks for alerting us on this - always bad news to find out the people or company you trust fail big time.

Although perhaps not relevant to this thread i would be interested to hear what DLT machines are recommended or which one you will go for.
