An error occurred...capturing from the device

I want to capture my videos from the camcorder to my harddrive, but it won't work. I always get a message which says: "An error occurred while capturing from the device".
It did work fine since years, but it did replace the firewire card to a firewire/usb2.0 pci-card. I thought this would be the problem, maybe the card is incompatible...
So I did try to capture the video on my notebook, it dosen't work either.
I don't know what is going wrong, I start Vegas capture a few seconds and it stopps. After that the will be offline and I have to reboot. This happens again and again....
Please, sombody help me what to do here.

On my notebook with winxp/sp2 it says on Vegas "Please, connect the device" - also the camera already connected. However on the Windows Movie Maker of XP it seems to work just fine! The error must be somewhere in Vegas6.

You haven't by any chance also got Vegas running with external preview turned on?
Bob.

I tried both, internal and external. It don't work, and I don't know what's the issue.
But I can tell you, the same problem I have with Adobe Premiere Pro. But why it does work on the Windows Movie Maker (XP)?
I hope someone of you guys does know what I'm doing wrong or my system?

Nobody knows what's the issue here...?

Did it start after you upgraded to Vegas 6, or just one day stop working?

Things to check would be dust buildup in the computer causing overheating, turn Media Manager off in Vegas options, make sure you have the V6 recommended Microsoft .NET version, firewire cable going bad.

It was working fine so far, but now I can't capture anymore. I turned off Media Manager, but it still won't work. Also I have the latest NET version and a original firewire cable by sony on my desktop and notebook.

I have a similar problem, I have to shut the tape unit off and back on. With your problem, I think one of the keys is that it works with one application. If it works with anything, it's not likely hardware.
Good luck!

My thought was that if the application (Vegas) uses more CPU power than Windows Movie Maker, then more heat is generated. That in turn can cause PC weirdness. You might monitor CPU usage capturing with both, and see if the CPU usage is different.

Funny, on my notebook I did capture the second tape to the hard drive without any problems - but only through Windows Movie Maker. It won't work on Vegas 6.
Do you can suggest me a tool to monitor the CPU usage, please?
Maybe that will bring some light to this issue...

Check out the capture FAQ at the VASST site. I think this link will work. You have to sign up to use the information at the site (it is a free sign up):
