Subject:trying to restore a clip

I'm trying to restore this clip that was recorded on a 'boombox' at my father in laws funeral service, using SF 5.2.

The tape recording isn't that bad, but I thought I would be able to get the background noise out of it. But after working with the Noise Gate, equalizer, and audio restoration, the clip has improved, but only slightly.

Am I using the wrong tools? Is there a way to remove the noise without clipping or muting the signal?

thanks for any suggestions,
-d

you need to use a noise reduction tool. you'll find one in the Software section of this site. with this tool you can select a short piece of the file that contains only the noise you wish to remove, and then reduce that noise in the overall file. you can really make a difference, especially considering the noise level of this recording.

Thanks ATP! I downloaded the Noise Reduction 2.0 and it cleaned up all the noise. It also inserted 'tones' every few seconds, is this because I'm using the demo version?

Again, thanks for the help,
