Subject:option to monitor live input during recording

hello people, just purchased SF Audio Studio 8 and I cant seem to find the option to monitor my live input. Ive been a user of SF 5 to SF 6 and was always able to monitor my live input during recording. I get the VU meters in the REC window, I have the monitor box enabled in the REC window, but I can't seem to find the option to monitor live input. I looked in the help index and it said as long as you have that "monior" box enabled you'll have that option, but I am lost. I've reinstalled SF 8, no help. I can record and playback just fine, I just need to monitor the input thru my speakers.
