Hello. Are there any methods in Sound Forge for reducing distortion on an audio file (besides reducing the sound level - that helped some but not enough)? We have some areas in a voice recording that is distorted and we would like to remove as much of the distortion as possible. Thank you for your help.

The noise reduction plugin has a "clipped peak restoration" which may help if the distortion is due to digital clipping. It doesn't help a lot for other types of distortion. You might try playing around with Process / Smooth, but that can make the sound muddy.

Sadly, once distortion happens there is very little that can be done to correct it.

The file level is under 6db, but it could have been reduced after having been brought it too high. The peaks don't appear to have been clipped (flat topped), but it could have been recorded too high on the first tape. I just thought I'd ask to see if anyone else had any success with EQ or something else. I'll take a look at the Process/Smooth. Thank you.
