I am using an external microphone that is connected to my computer. I was successful in the morning. Recorded a couple of songs successfully. But all of a sudden, nothing is getting recorded.
The info that you have asked, where can I find it? Please pardon my ignorance. I am not a computer wiz..but know a little here and there.

I am trying to play a karaoke CD on my computer and input the voice through an external microphone attached to the sys.

Please let me know if you need more info?

Thanks a million..

In SOundForge, Go to Preferences, Wave and look for the Record window. Mine is set to Microsoft mapper when I want to record from my soundboard's mic jake. It can be changed if you have an external sound board like a usb. Look at the pull down window and see if there's another setting and try that. Else, go back to original setting.

Go to windows Control panel. Open SOunds and Audio Devices. Under Volume click advances. Under Volume Control panel Options click Advances. You should see a list of devices with sliders and check boxes. Make sure your mike is on and volume is up.

Check some of the other tabs under Sound and AUdio Devices and see if your soundboard is listed in the pull downs.

I have the same exact settings too. But still I am unsuccessful in recording. I have a deadline on this recording... can someone please help me !?????? Any input to make this work will be greatly appreciated...The channel monitor is just flickering. Usually when I used to record, the range used to move up and down.. but now nothing is happening.

1. In Windows: Double-click the Windows speaker icon. Select Options>Properties>Recording. Under Show the following volume controls, check mark the box for Line. Click OK. Adjust the line volume control for optimal record levels while viewing the Sound Forge record window meter.
2. Open Sound Forge: from the main menu, select: Options>Preferences>Wave. Select the desired soundcard for Record and Playback. Click OK Select: Ctrl+R, to open the Record ready window. Make sure the monitor check box is checked.
- The "Options>Properties>Recording" volume fader, controls the audio level going to Sound Forge (or other recording software.- The "Options>Properties>Playback" volume fader, controls the source or playback audio level going to the speakers.
Settings may differ slightly for different sound cards, Windows OS and Sound Forge version.

You do, presumably, have your microphone plugged in to the correct socket, and turned on ? Sorry if this sounds condescending but sometimes even experts make silly mistakes.
