I am new to soundforge and I have been looking at the DVD seminar series. I have been trying to record my voice. After I push record, the bar (green to red, that shows whether it is clipping or not) does not appear to be working correctly because when I first open the menu, the bar is already all lit up. Its almost like it is saying that the volume is too loud and it is therefore clipping the audio when you are not even recording. Then when I close the recording menu to look at my file nothing seems to be recorded except for a few Clicks. Before I had Soundforge, I was using Cool Edit Pro and I have noticed this problem before. This not only occurs when trying to record voice, but also when trying to take audio off of a cassette tape. I am thinking that maybe it is a result of a wrong setting on my computer. Please leave me any questions or suggestions! Thanks for the help! |

This sounds like your sound card is not configured properly. The clue is that cool edit and SF act the same. We need more info on your sound hardware. Is it integrated or a separate card? Does it show up properly in device manager? R. click on my computer, choose manage, click on device manager and look for yellow question marks or red x's that indicate a driver not loaded or other problems. Can you play sound back through it? Is it integrated or a separate card? My sound card is integrated. Does it show up properly in device manager? I just checked my device manager and it shows that all is well (no yellow question marks or red X's) Can you play sound back through it? Just a few minutes ago, I tried to play a DVD on my computer using my DivX player. That DVD acted similiarly. Instead of the audio that was supposed to be there, it just clicked...Other DVD's produced this same distorted sound also. I also tried unplugging my external speakers and using the internal speakers on my computer - it still came out distorted. So I think it is a computer setting problem. Let me know if you have any other suggestions of what I could try. Thanks a bunch for the help! |

Go to my reply at this thead as there are instuctions on how to set the soundcard parameters. http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=3&MessageID=444346 I forget how to set the record/playback in CEP (Audition). If nothing else helps, try setting the soundcard back to the default setting, or reinstall the driver. |

Does sound like a driver or soundcard setup problem if the DVD player does the same. I too would start with reinstalling the driver and setting everything to default. When you can play sound through it then try recording again. Have you ever been able to play sound through it? That is, did it work when new? If it never worked even out of the box it could be a hardware problem. |

Thank you so much for your help. I called the manufacturer and we determined that it was a hardward problem with either the jack or the soundcard! God Bless! |

Hi I am also new to Sound Forge and am trying to use Audio Studio 7 to record from an audio device onto computer, however when you start recording the meter levels do not move! Has anyone any ideas as to why this is happening/not happening? Thanks Message last edited on4/23/2006 7:30:17 AM byG-Man. |
