Subject:Issues selecting portions of a track

I am using Sound Forge 7.0 to clean up a voice recording of the following parameters:
Bit Rate: 176Kbps
Audio Sample Size: 8 bit
Channels: 1 Mono
Audio sample rate: 22 kHz
Audio format: PCM

When I try to select an portion of the track, let say about 1/2 second that contains a click, hiss etc. The selection snaps and selects a longer portion (about 1.5 seconds). Basically, with these files it is impossible to edit them as this snapping is causing the loss of information that I need for a smooth end product.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Regards

Under Options, make sure you have auto snap to time and auto snap to zero both turned off.

Just a recommendation, but the first thing i would do with those files is convert to 16 bit. Doing any processing on an 8 bit file is going to start accumulating artifacts and distortion very quickly. You won't improve the original quality by going to 16 bit, but you'll be able to preserve what's there much better than working with only 8 bits.
