Subject:SF 8.0d hard locks on startup

I just installed SF 8 (version b was what was in the box) and it goes through the motions of running the program (loads up the plugins goes to the initial console) and then locks hard. I have to press the reset button on the physical computer to get loose from it. Ctrl-alt-delete does not break it loose. I've downloaded the update to version 8.0d to see if that helped and it did not. Here's some info: WinXP PIV 3.0 ghz 2 gigs of RAM Digidesign HD2 cards Soundblaster XiFi card Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 Ultra Updated drivers for everything Protools runs fine as does SONAR and a host of different plugins, so it seems as though something that Sound Forge is loading or trying to access is causing my computer to hate life. I'm kind of at a loss because it doesn't bring up any kind of error, it simply locks hard and I have to reboot. Perhaps I should uninstall SF and try a clean reinstall? Any help would be most appreciated...if nothing works, I guess I'll just kill SF and find a different editor to do basic edits and batch converting. Shame because I've always been a fan of SF... sigh, -Zack |

So the main window appears and then it locks up? Weird. Do you have the Digi Wave or ASIO drivers installed? Two options to try: 1) Temporarily remove the "Audio Hardware Drivers" folder from the install location. 2) Temporarily remove "sfvstwrap.dll" from the install location. I'll diagnose in more detail if either of those resolves it. J. Message last edited on4/11/2006 2:51:58 PM byForumAdmin. |

Yeah, this is pretty weird... I think the Audio Hardware Drivers subdirectory is the culprit. I took both that and the sfvstwrap.dll file out at the same time and started SF. It loaded fine. I then put the .dll file back in by itself and loaded...came up fine. Put the Audio Hardware Drivers directory and it actually loaded up. Out of curiosity, I rebooted the machine and reloaded SF. Locked up hard again. So I rebooted again and took out the Audio Hardware Drivers subdirectory and loaded SF with no problems...guess that's the bad apple. The digi drivers are the ones that came with PT7, which I believe are the ASIO drivers...I could be on crack, though. :) Message last edited on4/11/2006 3:12:25 PM byzackq. |

Hi Zackq. If you don't mind remove the Soundblaster XiFi card I have SF on my TDM Mix 6.4.1 and 7.0 ASIO without any issues. George Ware |

No guys. this is crashing even more frequently now with my batch cvrtr usage. How can I help? I dunno - I keep my sh*t tip-top - I KNOW it's sf8 on this one. Maybe look into all issues involving appending text to files while running batches in batch cvrtr, batching several directories deep in folders and drives? I dunno, I've kinda had it. What i do know is that 8d isn't as or anymore stable than 8b - it's in fact worse as far as I've seen. Crashed much more today while doing usual cvrtr work. I switched back to only using sonic soundrys 5.0 batch cvrtr (which has it's own flakiness...but thank GOD I still have this compared to 8d (or b). Christ. Come on Sony. This is...this is ridiculous. It's unacceptable to anybody doing a lot of audio work/cvrting at this point. also: I sent you an email a while back (to your email addy on this site) with my sf8b crashing info. No return reply on that btw. Message last edited on4/12/2006 2:27:59 AM byjaydeeee. |
