Subject:Good time to go v6 to v8 ?

I currently own v6, but need to use VST effects and I'll also soon need CD architect. But neither is absolutely urgent.

Is now a good time to upgrade to version 8 ? Is v9 about to come out ?

Also I read about the free upgrade to v7 that a lot of v5 owners got. Hmmm. Do I qualify for that ? Is $149 the best download price available ?

thanks

If you absolutely need VST effects then you will probably want to upgrade. Scripting is nice too, but if you use it mostly for batch converting then there have been many reports that the old Batch Converter 5.0 works better than scripting in Sound Forge 8.

I don't recall anything about that free version upgrade. Normally if you buy the current version less than 30 days before the next version comes out then SONY will offer you a free upgrade, but that would only apply during that time frame going up one version level.

There was also a time when SONY pushed CD Architect users to Vegas 3, claiming that it would be the main CD authoring application. Then when they resurrected CD Architect 5.2 those audio-only users complained about having paid so much for a video editor they didn't need, so SONY offered some of them a free cross-grade to CD Architect.

$149 is the going price for the upgrade on SONY's site. Mind you, that does not include CD Architect since that is a separate product. You might want to shop around. Some online stores offer better deals than SONY's upgrade pricing.

Just a small correction...the SF 8 upgrade does indeed include CDA 5.2. It's how I got mine, and the upgrade page lists that it is included as well.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll try to hold out until the last moment before I need it just in case :-)

AFAIK there is no SF9 imminent. If there was you'd likley get a free upgrade anyway, if within a certain time-period.

geoff
