Audio Studio Laptop Recording Problem -Sound Forge - PC

I set up a client with Audio Studio 8.0, an Alesis USB mixer and a couple of wireless mics for recording her boss's seminars on her laptop. During the first seminar recording, Audio Studio would repeatedly stop recording at random intervals ranging from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. We removed her external USB drive, disabled the laptop's internal sound card and she turned off every function she could think of, but it made no difference. Any ideas what could cause such behavior?
