plug-in chainer and automation: fails -Sound Forge - PC

I use the plug-in chainer to chain effects, using VST plug-ins. This works fine as long as I do not attempt to automate any parameters. Using Sonitus:multiband e.g. or Sonitus:reverb. I automate the reverb amount, tweak the envelope, but wen clicking process selection, it seems to do processing but the resulting wave file is unchanged. The plug-in IS enabled. The preview DOES work as expected at first. After a while though, even the preview of the automation stops to work (selected param does not move with envelope). When saving the setup in a chain, and reloading SF, SF crashes, apparently unable to load the chain of plug-ins. OK, I don't really need automation in SF, I use Sonar 5 for that anyway most of the time, but why on earth doesn't it work in SF? System: Windows XP home, sp2, Celeron 1300, 1 GB ram.
