Subject:Help with 2GB Filesize Workaround

I know that there is a 2GB wav filesize limit. However, I need a suggestion for a workaround. I am recording a live event that will will be approx. 2-hours in length. The feed to Soundforge will be a 2-channel 24-bit/192kHz digital signal or if need be a 2-channel 24-bi/96kHz digital signal. I will obviously hit the 2GB size threshold before the event is over. Any suggestions for a work around or is the only option to stop, save and then initate recording again? I hope not as I am looking for a seamless recording of the live event. Assuming you're using 7.0 or 8.0 (and maybe 6.0, but I'd have to check), you can record as long as you like. You'll just have to split it up into sections if you want to save it as .wav after recording has stopped. Though with a long recording, I'd first just save the whole thing as .w64 before you start editing anything. J. Message last edited on11/14/2006 8:26:06 AM byForumAdmin. |

I am using 8.0d So the event recording is complete. I now have a large temp file (if saved as .wav is larger than 2GB) that needs to be saved and quickly since I have multiple events to record. How do I save the entire thing as a .w64? Message last edited on11/14/2006 8:30:26 AM byBlueDakota. |

The wave .64 solution is good -- however, it does take a long time to save the data to a file. I think his problem has two parts, 1 -- the file size issue and the duration to write the data to a .64 file. This is one of the features of Sound Forge that I personally feel awkward about. The time duration to correctly write the data to a file, especially after doing long records at higher quality bit depths. I woudl love to hear any suggestion on the matter. I have since turned to a standalone digitizer to handle my data recording needs, later on a transfer them to the daw end edit there after. Thanks - Kevin |

If you save to the same drive that you used for the temporary recording folder then the save should be almost instantaneous. |
