Hello all, new SF8 user here! I am recording in CuBase4 and mastering in SF8. I would have liked Wavelab but it's way too expensive. I must say that SF8 is growing on me though and I really like the CD architect too as I need that for making professional CD's with ISRC codes an everything. My Q is about using the plugin chain for mastering while getting statistics to see how much kompression/limiting the song needs. I can play the song through the effects chain but I have to process the audio destructively to get the statistics of the audio. This is not a smooth work flow. I adjust the chain, save the file, process the chain, then check the statistics, then undo processing, adjust the chain, save file, etc. etc. Is there a better way to do this? thanks JimR Message last edited on3/25/2007 7:55:13 AM byJimR. |

Well, the VU meters might be helpful, but if this is strictly based on statistics (presumably RMS), that would just slow the process down to real-time. Otherwise, no, there's no way I know of to estimate the output of a chain without actually processing and analyzing it. However, if you are not automating any of the effects, you could do this with a custom script. You'd need a specific set of chainer presets saved, but could script the workflow you're already doing manually. That is, process with the first chain preset, check the statistics, and decide whether to stop and save or undo and try the next one. One optimization might be to break up the processing into shorter chunks to isolate the loudest portion and use that to determine the correct preset to apply to the entire file, Visit the scripting forum for more tips on how to do this.
