Rendering Project Creates 2 Files?

I've recently upgraded to Vegas 7.0d and when i render a 40 minute video project it created 2 rendered files instead of just one - each about 3.5Gig (rendered at best quality) Anybody know why. I rendered the looped project from start to end. I've been using Vegas for years and it never did this before, anyone have suggestions how to fix this?
Thanks

Haev you changed HDD's lately? If so, look at your HDD and check the formatting; likely it's in a FAT 32 format. Format your drive as NTFS rather than FAT32, this should clear up your problem.

Thanks for the quick reply; I'll give this a try and see if it corrects the problem. The Hard Drive I'm using is also a external HD does this matter?

External doesn't matter at all, but it makes Spot's suggestion even more likely to be correct. Many external drives come from the factory formatted with FAT32 in order to ensure compatibility with the widest number of computers. It's a very good choice for most applications, and actually is a little faster than NTFS. However, its file size limitation means the large video files must be broken up into many individual files. Thus, if you don't need to use this with MAC or Win98/ME computers, I would recommend re-formatting for NTFS.
