Subject:SF XP 5.4 Download

I was told by tech support i could download the full version of XP 4.5, as my original CD is destroyed. But the link they gave me was for an update, not the original. Even though he insisted i could download the full version. Anyone know what the deal is?

Updates ARE "full versions" (as opposed to a "patch"). Did you download and install it? Of course you will need your serial #.

i attempted to install the update but it gives a message;
"An exisiting installation of the software must exist in order to preform an update. Please install this software from its original CD, then run this update again"
This is where im stuck...

mmmmm, obviously things have changed over the past few years regarding the update thing. Anyway, if Sony doesn't come through for you, then you might have to shop around or ask someone here to let you have a copy of an original disc. However, an obvious question for me is why not upgrade to a newer version? The functionality and features of versions 7, 8 & 9 and are light years from 4.5. By the time you go through all the hassle of trying to get 4.5 going again, you may have spent more time and resources than just doing an upgrade.

If you properly registered 4.5, then I think all you need is the serial # to do an upgrade. If you want to pursue and upgrade I would contact Sony by phone and tell them what's happening. I've found them to be pretty understanding with these kinds of situations.
