Subject:Creamware ASIO in Forge 9.0

I'm attempting to extract specific card issues from the "SF9 not working in ASIO mode" thread. So this is primarly for bcslaam and company.

The original problem report was that Sound Forge would not permit 24-bit playback with Creamware ASIO drivers. Also, after failing to play back, the driver would be unavailable until the SCOPE app is restarted.

I've configured SCOPE 4.0 and a very old Pulsar card with the "ASIO2 Dest" and "ASIO2 24 Bit Source" modules running to and from the appropriate ADAT modules (physically hooked up to a real ADAT via optical). I've slaved the SCOPE to the ADAT, which seems to work fine at 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz. I can play back 24-bit files with no issues (as long as the rate matches).

I do see that the SCOPE stuff has trouble with sharing its drivers, particularly after you try to play an unsupported format. Once it fails, it won't always recover, though the UI stays up, etc. I've been able to bring it down with both WaveLab and Audition, where Sound Forge is not involved at all. So there may be some deeper issues here than we will not be able to solve solely on the app side. It's possible that SCOPE 4.5 resolves some of this, but that isn't currently available to me.

So, this is more of an update than anything else, but Creamware users feel free to chime in on this thread with your experiences.

J.
