I've never had a problem recording pretty much as long as i want to. What's happening to you at 2 hours? .WAV files are limited to 2GB, but at standard 44100K 16 bit stereo that's still enough for about 3 hours 20 minutes. There are also other formats you can save to, such as .W64 or .PCA or .MP3 which allow for much larger files. You could also use a lower bitrate or record in mono. |

I am recording them as MP3's...but it seems if I go over a couple of hours I get nothing...meaning, I let it record for around three hours and then hit "close" on record I get almost no file...just a 22kb file last time and no audio at all. Any suggestions. I'm going to give it another try. Also, is there any way to set it to record for 5 hours? It only lets me set it to 2 hours at the most. Thanks! |

You can't record as MP3 in SoundForge. You can record uncompressed and then Save AS MP3 after the recording is done. I've worked with 4+ hours MP3 files before without difficulty. However, i'll also admit that i've created them by rendering in Vegas. i don't think i've ever tried to save one that long from Sound Forge. It seems like it should work just as well as it does from Vegas though. It looks like you must be using the Punch-In mode. This is really intended for replacing a small section of sound from a previous recording with new material. Instead, try setting the Method to Automatic: Time. This will open up a Time Options panel at the bottom of the window which allows you to "program" recording times much as you would program a VCR to record TV shows. You can enter arbitrarily long record durations here. You may also want to set the mode to Create A New Window For Each Take so that each recording automatically ends up in a new file. I've never bothered to use the automatic recording as i always start and stop recording manually. |

Another thing you might check out... Are you using NTFS or FAT32? There are file size limitations (besides the WAV size) on a FAT32 drive. The drive you're using as the temporaty drive (at least) should be NTFS. Is that the case? |

It's NTFS...I just got a 2 hour and 10 minute file(238MB)...I'm going to try a longer one tomorrow. I'll try a 3 or 4 hour and see what happens. These "experiments" take a long time. I'll report in. Thanks! |

I have an "Automatic retake" mode but that doesn't open a time options. "Punch-In" mode lets me put in a time but only up to two hours. How do I set the mode to "create a new window for each take"? Thanks again! |

That's under Method, not Mode. |

I've now recorded some three hour clips. I had a few "bumps" like a corrupt file but it seems to be working how I want it to. Also...where do I find "method"? Thanks! |
