Subject:Clipping after Compression

I've recently moved to SF9.0a (via 8.0) after more than a decade of working with 4.0 My workflow always used to be (with spoken word) 44.1kHz .wav mono: Noise reduction MultiBand Dyn (Reduce Sibilants) Graphic Dyn (Thres -7dB, Ratio inf:1, Attack 0.0, Rel 0.0, Auto Gain Compensate [on]) This always gave me decent loudness with guaranteed no clipping. Since moving to 9.0 I have found that this almost always produces sporadic clipping and not always to the same level for the same sample each time it is played (sometimes 0.4 or 0.1 or 0.7) [To clarify; say there was a peak at 00:00:01.372, each time I played it it would peak to a different amount.] So, is there a change in the way Graphic Dynamics processes? It would seem to me that Auto Gain Compensate with Attack and Rel so tight should not cause clipping -but if it did, the clipping would be constant for any given sample. (by the way -I also find the playback following cursor behaviour of 9.0a to be more than a little inconvenient!!) Thanks anyone, James |
