Subject:Bass roll off = level boost?

I am using graphic eq and notice the level goes UP after applying a bass roll off iwth no gain added.

Yes, this seems to be the way it behaves. It is not unusual for this to happen with low cut filters but SF is rather dramatic at times. The apparent level boost is caused (I believe) by the phase shift that occurs at the cut off frequency.
A workaroud: lower the level of the clip by say 6dB, apply low cut, apply wavehammer (limit only, no compression) to boost 6dB.

When you attenuate low end material, there will always be an increase in higher frequencies (and vice-versa though not as apparent). Lots of factors involved in this but the bottom line is that it will occur regardless of what brand plugin you use. Try some other eq plugs and check it out for yourself.
