Subject:release of audio driver?

Something I haven't been able to solve. When editing from Ableton Live 6, I'll open Sound Forge (through an edit dialog in live 6).
I will not be able to get sound within SF9 (as if Live 6 is not releasing the driver--a Fireface 800). If I am able to get sound in SF9, when I close SF9, I no longer am able to get sound in Live 6 unless I restart the program.
Basically, to use SF9 I have to close Live 6 and reopen it when done editing. Any fixes for this? SF9 works fine otherwise (except for telling me everytime that my MOTU Traveler cannot be found, even though I've clearly indicated the Fireface as my audio device and haven't had the Traveler connected for greater than a year!)

Make sure you are using the same driver model in both applications (e.g. ASIO). Most devices are not designed to run different models concurrently (e.g. WDM in one and ASIO in another).

You may also want to see whether Live is or can be configured to release the device when it loses focus (Forge always does this automatically unless it is playing/recording).

Thanks. I am using ASIO. I've tried having both of them using the ASIO Fireface. I've also tried one using ASIO Fireface and another using ASIO4all or ASIO from Apogee.
I'll look into the release of the driver. This used to not be a problem with Live and Sound Forge together. However, a number of parameters have changed (versions of Live and Sound Forge and the use of the Fireface instead of the MOTU Traveler).
