Subject:Click noise when starting play

Sound Forge 9 on new HP Pavilion laptop with Vista.
Whenever I start a playback of any length, a click or pop is heard at the instant I hit play..
I've been using SF for many years on many systems and this is the first time I've had this problem.
SF, Vista or HP problem? I don't know where to start troubleshooting. I've installed and un-installed twice.

Thanks for any advise.

Try increasing the playback latency in Options->Preferences->Audio. The default is 0.20 seconds. Try 0.40 or so.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't help at .40 or any other value.
Anything else to try?

If you are using Microsoft Sound Mapper, switch to Windows Classic Wave Driver and select the device manually. Then disable system sounds or select a different device in Vista's Sounds control panel.

If the problem persists, please provide more information on the audio device and driver.

"Classic Wave Driver" didn't change it but I tried "Direct Sound Surround Mapper" and that seems to fix it. I'm not sure if that will create any new problems and I'm not sure why that made a difference, but it seems to be the right direction to go. Buffer at .10 works best.

FYI, my system uses Realtek 6.0.1.5384

Thanks much.
