I am a new user to Sound Forge and do not fully understand the difference between simply saving a file, or saving via Rendering. Dosen't simply saving a file hold all the editing changes and added effects?. When is it necessary to Render a file in Sound Forge. Appreciate any input. Regards, Steve. Vegascat40@hotmail.com |

Save - saves the file in it's current format Save As - saves the file to a user-specified format/template Render - renders a media file from a .frg project file, this option is disabled for everything but .frg files. If you want to keep the edit history intact indefinitely, you'll want to save as a .frg project file, which will also save off the media it requires in a folder of the same name. It's roughly equivalent to saving a Vegas project (.veg) with the "Copy and trim media" option checked. When you want to produce the final result, you render the .frg to the desired format (.wav, .mp3, etc.). That is, every file type but .frg in Forge is a media type. If you do not use .frg files, you are generating (or overwriting) a media file every time you save. This is not recommended for lossy formats like mp3. FWIW, Forge does allow you to keep the edit history of a media file intact while it remains open. To get this behavior, enable Options->Preferences->General->"Allow Undo past Save". The edit history will be gone once you close the file. J. Message last edited on10/18/2007 8:06:13 AM byForumAdmin. |
