Subject:Acid compatible with Yamaha XG soft synth?

I know precious little about MIDI and do not have any
knowledgeable colleagues to ask... all I know about Acid is
what I've read... but I am getting interested in getting
started with both Acid and the Yamaha XG soft synthesizer.
Are these products compatible?

Also, can I use Acid to whip up some nice audio tracks even
if I'm not a musician and have not intention of "becoming"
one?
