I have the final version of DVDA 4.5 and I have exactly the same problem. I am using a Plextor PX-760A with Vista Ultimate to write to a DVD+R and can close DVDA using the Task Manager but must reboot to clear the DVD drive so I can eject the DVD (software doesn't work). I tried the only drive option I could find: "let software test the drive to determine capabilities" (or something like that). Can anyone help?

Thanks

I just burned a Verbatim DVD+RW with a Plextor PX-810SA, DVDA4.5, Win XP Pro with no problem. The lead out burn takes a few minutes but no hang.

I have exactly the same problem when I try to burn a DVD+R with my Plextor PX-760A (XP Pro). Writing a DVD+RW however works fine.
I upgraded the Plextor firmware (v. 1.07) but it still doesn't work. DVDA hangs during the lead-out (99%) and I have to end the program in task manager.
Writing the same project with my Sony DRU500 worked fine...

I have the same problem with DVDA 4.5a and my Plextor PX-716A. DVDA usually hangs at 99% while burning the lead-out but occasionally does finish the burn. Unfortunately those discs can't be read in my drives (PC and stand-alone). I get disc error messages or the drive hangs trying to read the disc.

I am using firmware 1.09 but just noticed 1.11 is available. I will update and report back.

I can confirm the same problem burning a DVD+R with the Plextor PX-716A (latest firmware 1.11) and DVDA4.5a. The PX-716A is in a firewire external enclosure. I also have a Plextor PX-810SA which hangs when burning the lead-in on DVD+R with DVDA4.5a. With both Plexors the DVD+Rs burns fine with CopyToDVD, Imgburn, Nero, Gear, and EasyMedia Creator.

I installed DVD Architect 3.0c (build 133) and created the same project then burned a Sony DVD+R with the Plextor PX-810SA and it burned with no errors and no hang on lead-in/out and the DVD played fine!

I also tried DVD Architect 4.0b (Build 166) which failed the same as DVDA4.5a.

It sure looks like the problem with the plextor was introduced with changes made in DVDA4X from DVDA3.0c.
bbcdrum wrote on 11/24/2007, 4:36 PM
Thanks for the confirmation. I have not yet needed to burn a disc with firmware 1.11.

ECB, thanks for helping me avoid burning a coaster.

I hope Sony takes note of the problems burning with Plextor on DVDA 4.5.

I hope Sony takes note of the problems burning with Plextor on DVDA 4.5.

I recommend you notify support of the problem.

Evidently, Plextor isn't the only problem drive. I have an Optorite and it hangs on the +R/W disks also. Have to do a hard reboot to get out of it. Tried it again today and decided to wait it out and I got the following error msg.:

'SFMMCX'-(17)

-'OPTORITE DVD RW DD0401 130E'-(0)
Module c:\p4\sonic3\release\dvdarchitect\4.5\cddrvs\sfcd\mmc.cpp Line 2007
The drive is not ready.
The drive is not ready, a write is in progress.

For added clarification of the above issue:

Burned this same project onto a DVD-R disk and all went well. I twice tried to burn this same project onto a DVD+RW and that is when the trouble started.

At the 'burning lead out' msg. it hung with no activity on either the DVD/RW drive or the hard drive for about 10 minutes. I tried to 'cancel' and that is when I realized that the system was hung. I had to do a power off/power on to regain control of the system again.

The above screen dump of the crash error info appeared after about 15 minutes of no activity again (3rd attempt). I did manage to 'cancel' the process and eject the disk. However, the disk works perfectly.

Seems as though DVDA 4.5 is not letting the drive know it is finished with the burn.

A PURE guess, Bob, based on personal experience with +RW discs... I've found that the initial drive where they were 1st formatted was the only reliable drive from then on. It's not apparent in all burning software -- I found it first using Paragon's excellent backup program. Reading the disc info in apps like Nero Speed, identical discs formatted in separate drives showed different info/specs etc. I've gone thru and labeled the RWs with the drive & haven't had any further problems [assuming I keep them straight ;-) ]

OK, I ran out today and bought some DVD +R disks and they are doing the same thing as far as crashing the system and not working at all afterwards. I found it interesting that the DVD +RW disk DID work even after hanging my system. I have also used DVD-R disks and they seem to burn properly, but they are also not compatible with a lot of DVD set top units. Sure wish Sony would check out these boards like they used to.

Since there have not been any recent postings in this thread, I assume that the previous posters have either solved this issue or have developed a 'work-around'. Could you please post your methods of burning to a +RW or +R disk?

Thanks,
Bob

I had the same problem with DVDA4.5A, TY media, and a plextor 716A drive. Burned a bunch of coasters before I remembered that I'd upgraded from DVDA3.0. My workaround: Prep project in DVDA4.5 do not burn. Exit 4.5 launch DVDA3.0 go to make DVD, choose to make dvd from an already prepped project, burn away. I may go back to using 3.0 entirely but this saved me from losing all my work in a project already started in 4.5.

Thank you VERY much for your suggestion. I will try that. I was under the impression that everything (I know the .veg files are) was version dependent. Thanks again.

You are correct, DVDA3.0 does indeed burn a useable disk using a project file prepared in DVDA4.5a. Sure hope this group gets it fixed in the next release (if there is one).

I have a Palm pilot, which uses the Palm Hot Sync Manager to synchronize with my PC.

DVD Architect Pro does not seem to hang if I exit the Palm Hot Sync Manager when burning.
BobMoyer wrote on 12/31/2007, 11:27 AM
I don't have that software on my PC.

I get a similar error to Bob. No word from tech support. I have the problem sometimes (not all the time) burning audio CDs from Vegas as well.
